JAMES BOND Producer Offers Update on Next Film… ‘There’s Nothing’

Producer of James Bond Barbara Broccoli has offered an update on the next film in the fan-favorite Bond series, and it’s simply that we shouldn’t expect any new 007 films anytime soon. There is no movement on anything at the moment.

Recently, speaking to Deadline at Christopher Nolan’s British Film Institute Fellowship Award ceremony, Broccoli was asked if there was anything to share about the future of James Bond and she responded:

“No, there’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film. There’s nothing. Nothing’s happening yet.”

I guess they’re still trying to figure out how the hell they want to proceed after Daniel Craig’s epic run as the character. I think it’s fair that they take their time and give the franchise a long rest before starting again.

It was previously reported that EON and Amazon “are pushing for Nolan and that he would agree, in principle, unless his need for creative freedom is met. However, there are some critical points to resolve in terms of tone that could derail things.

The rumored plan was that EON is looking to do a complete reboot of the franchise for the modern era, and they are looking to adapt some of Ian Fleming’s classic novels, “in period settings, that are close to the source material “.

Nolan previously said there’s “no truth to those rumors,” but even if there is, he won’t say anything. The director has been very vocal about wanting to direct a James Bond film, previously saying: “It would be an extraordinary privilege to do one. At the same time, when you play a character like that, you work with a particular set of constraints. It has to be the right time in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really dig into something within the appropriate boundaries because you never want to go through something like that and do it wrong.”

Nolan had already said a few years ago that he had spoken to the producers of the Bond franchise, saying: “I spoke to the producers Barbara Broccoli AND Michael G. Wilson in the years. I love the character deeply and am always excited to see what they do with him. Maybe one day it would work. You should be needed, if you know what I mean. He must need to be reinvented; he must need you. And they get along very well.”

Broccoli previously said that he has only just scratched the surface of the next iteration of Bond, and that there is “a big way to go.” He also explained that the iconic character will have to be “reinvented for the next chapter”.

“I go back to GoldenEye when everyone said ‘the cold war is over, the wall is over, Bond is dead, there’s no need for Bond, the whole world is at peace and now there are no more bad guys’ – and boy, do I I was wrong!

“Daniel gave us a chance to delve into the emotional life of the character… and the world was ready for that too. I think these films reflect the moment they’re in, and there’s a great, great way forward for reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even started with that.”

We’ll just have to be patient, wait and see what they do next with this character. Whatever it is, I hope they do something really cool with it!
