BEWITCHED Reboot series in development by THE BOYS executive producer Judalina Neira

Sony Pictures Television is ready to reinvent the iconic ’60s sitcom Bewitched, which will surely make fans of the classic TV series turn up their noses. This time, the magic will come with a modern twist, thanks to the creator Giudalina Neiraknown for her work on the hit series The boys. Neira, who recently inked an overall deal with Sony through his Famous Last Words Productions, will write and executive produce the reboot, promising an hour-long series that respects the original while navigating the complexities of today’s world.

Lauren Stein, an executive at Sony Pictures TV, expressed his excitement about Neira joining the Sony family, saying: “Judalina joined the Sony family with her work on The Boys and we are incredibly proud of her contributions to supporting the vision by creator Eric Kripke. She brings passion and authenticity and has been an advocate for the representation and growth of Latinx writers – we knew we had to make a deal with her! We are so excited to have called Sony home and can’t wait for what’s to come as we deepen our relationship.”

The series is described as an “irreverent hour-long reimagining of the original, and Doug Robinson and Lauren Moffat are also on board as executive producers. They hope the reboot resonates with longtime fans and newcomers alike.

The original Bewitched the series, which aired from 1964 to 1972, had as its protagonist Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha, a witch married to a common mortal, Darrin Stephens (played by Dick York and subsequently from Dick Sargent). I remember watching reruns of this show with my mom when I was a kid and I loved it.

While Neira’s vision for the reboot will be irreverent, it will retain the charm and whimsy of the original while exploring new stories that reflect today’s society.

Neira expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying: “It’s been a real pleasure telling wicked stories with the Sony TV team over the past few years. I couldn’t be more excited to join forces with them for this next big step in my career. And with our newly launched Famous Last Words Productions, I’m excited to both write and produce a full slate of engaging, character-driven shows that serve pleasure with bite.

There are currently no details on the cast, production timeline or release date, but the project follows news of a previous attempt to bring Bewitched to the big screen.

While we wait for more details to emerge, it appears that Sony Pictures Television and Neira are trying to honor the legacy of Bewitched as he casts a new spell that captures the hearts and imaginations of the audience.
