Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained) AND Caleb Landry Jones (Go out, DogMan) are in talks to join the cast of a new retelling of the classic vampire story, Dracula. Director Luca Besson (Léon: The professional, Lucia, DogMan) is tackling the epic fantasy adaptation, which will tell the story of 15th-century Prince Vladimir who cursed God after the death of his beloved wife and turned into a vampire. Later, in 19th century London, he discovers his wife’s doppelgänger and becomes condemned by pursuing her.
Waltz is in talks to star, as is Landry-Jones, which would reunite Besson with his leading man in Dogmanwhich bowed in Venice last year.
EuropaCorp, the company Besson founded 25 years ago, produces the film. The company was taken over by its junior lender Vine Alternative Investments in 2020, after being subjected to a debt waiver by a French commercial court. Besson – who in France was definitively acquitted of all charges in the rape case involving the Belgian-Dutch actress Sand Van Roy – no longer has an operational role in EuropaCorp, and holds the role of artistic director with an exclusive agreement five years renewable for another two years.
