In a recent candid interview with Doctor who actor Pietro Capaldididn’t hold back in sharing his opinions on the high-octane, death-defying stunts that some actors enjoy Tom Cruise they personally acted in some of their big action films. Guest on the Off Menu podcast, Capaldi said:
“Fuck that too, I mean, all that kind of stuff. Who cares? Really: who cares? No. Don’t make me uncomfortable. I’ll pretend to eat an octopus. That’s all we have to do; who if Do you care? You know, I love Tom Cruise; he’s amazing. I don’t really care that he strapped himself into a Hercules bomber and went up there. I don’t really care that he’s on a motorcycle and comes… . I don’t care. You know? He’s great, great, and he’s a lovely man, and he’s really sweet and everything. I don’t care… I admire him. It’s a movie; who cares?”
I personally love that Cruise does this kind of thing! He is so handsome and so crazy that he is willing to put his life on the line to entertain his fans. How can you not respect that!? The guy is an entertainer and he is putting everything he has into these films. He is making an extra effort that many other actors don’t.
Jackie Chan he did the same thing with crazy stunts in his martial arts movies, and even Buster Keaton he did that kind of thing in the silent film era. Many other actors performed their own stunts. I love Capaldi, but even if he doesn’t care about actors who do this kind of thing, the audience does. There’s a lot to appreciate about actors who go the extra mile. Most actors aren’t made like that, and that’s okay!
