An interesting report has emerged in this regard Quentin Tarantinothe final film, The film critic. According to The Insider, Tom Cruise is in talks to join the cast of the film!
Cruise and Tarantino almost worked together Once upon a time… in Hollywood, but evidently things didn’t work out. Cruise has a very busy schedule as he will be busy filming next year Mission: Impossible 8. But it’s explained that the actor is trying to rearrange his schedule to try to accommodate a “small role or cameo” in the film.
The film critic is set in California in 1977 “and is based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and wrote movie reviews for a porno rag.” Tarantino explained: “he wrote about mainstream films and was the second-rank critic. I think he was a great critic. He was cynical as hell. His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and Travis Bickle [Robert DeNiro’s character in Taxi Driver] he might be if he were a film critic.
He added: “Think about Travis’s diary entries. But the porn critic was very, very funny. That was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his shit was really funny. He was rude as hell. He wrote as if he were 55, but he was only in his 30s. He died in his early thirties. For a while it wasn’t clear, but now I’ve done a little more research and I think it’s complications from alcoholism.”
Apparently, Tarantino has done “quite a bit of rewriting” since these details were shared, so there may be some changes to what we know.
