Zendaya and Florence Pugh tease the heartbreaking ending of DUNE: PART TWO and how it sets up the third film

Denis Villeneuve’S Duna: second part will conclude the adaptation of the first by Frank Herbert Dune novel, but it will not be the end of the saga since there is another film with Villeneuve which will also adapt Herbert’s Messiah of the dunes. If you’ve read the books, then you know how Dune ends, but during a recent interview Zendaya and Florence Pughwho play Chani and Princess Irulan in the sequel, talk about the film’s heartbreaking ending and tease how the third film sets up.

Zendaya says of the Duna: second part ending: “I feel like it’s a heartbreak. You know, there’s heartbreak. There’s betrayal. There’s loss and confusion and, I feel like, it’s a pretty painful ending. It doesn’t end like ‘somebody won.’ , it’s not like that. Dreams and broken hearts.”

Purgh continued, “I think when I read the last few pages, I suddenly felt like, ‘Oh, she’s so much more savvy than I thought,’ from Princess Irulan’s point of view. I think it’s really a moment where she realizes her power and her position in the future. And keeping her namesake and also realizing that this is purely transactional and it’s a business decision, and I like that about her. After watching an entire movie about her, she just listens and observes and understands things, she’s as much a part of this decision as he is.”

She continued, “And then there’s that moment between them at the end, which is really heartbreaking, and I really think she times it. I think she understands what it means, and through [Chani’s] With a very beautiful and sad face she understands that this was not part of the plan, which means that, realistically, she is needed in this deal as much as he needs them. So there’s a lot going on underneath everything. You are right. It doesn’t make you feel good, which definitely makes you ready for what happens next, which is very, very exciting.”

Dune is a mythical and emotionally charged hero’s journey and tells the story of Paul Atreides, “a brilliant and gifted young man born with a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to secure the future of his family and its people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence – a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential – only those who can conquer their fear will survive. ”.

The next chapter of the story will explore the “mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he joins Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of vengeance against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Faced with the choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he attempts to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.”

Duna: Messiah is set several years after the events of the first book and follows Paul Atreides, now Emperor of the Known Universe. Paul’s rule is marked by political intrigue, religious fervor, and the consequences of his prescient visions. As he navigates the complexities of his position, Paul faces challenges from various factions, including the powerful Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, which seeks to control his bloodline. Amidst all this turmoil, Paul’s relationship with his wife Chani and his young children adds a personal dimension to his difficulties.

Duna: second part debuts in theaters March 1.
