Bryan Cranston recently appeared on Jenna Fisher AND Angela Kinseyis the last episode of The office ladies podcasts. Cranston directed one episode of the ninth season of The office titled “Work Bus,” and shared during the show that he has ideas for a big-screen revival of the hit comedy series. That’s right, Cranston wants a full Office movie! He said:
“Let’s say there isn’t a reboot series, but what if there was a movie? Something where we can see where these people are. These people from the entire cast we are curious about. In the end we asked ourselves: where did they go? What happened to them?”
Fischer and Kinsey all seemed to agree. Kinsey said, “I would. I would do it for my kids, because I think they would think it was fun.
Fischer added: “I mean, if [showrunner] Greg [Daniels] I did it, because I would have trusted. You know? As long as Greg writes it and is responsible for it, then I say yes.
Cranston went on to say that he would have a smaller role: “I just want to be an extra. I would be an extra. I would be a boy. I’d be a border guard or something. Just something.”
Kinsey went a little further and added, “Maybe you’re like one of Dwight’s mercenaries at Schrute Farms.”
There has been talk of a revival of the series The officeand addressing this topic, Greg Daniels said, “Well, I think it’s very speculative. The fact that it blew up based on one line in a Puck piece was pretty cool, I guess, in the sense that fans still care a lot about it.” . But the thing I would say is, when there’s something to announce, I’ll definitely announce it.”
Daniels also shared that it’s “not impossible” for something to happen, but he certainly doesn’t want to rush into a decision and disappoint fans. Daniels has also said in the past that if The Office were to continue in some way, “it would just be kind of an extension of the universe, you know what I mean, like the way [The] Mandalorian is like an extension of ‘Star Wars.'”
“It was such a perfect thing that I would have hesitated to open it. We had a chance to end it the way we wanted to end it. It wasn’t like we were interrupted in the middle of a race or anything like that. So it feels like It’s completely artistic. But, having said that, I don’t know, the cast occasionally talks about getting back together in some form, but I don’t see it as a reboot like Will & Grace was rebooted.”
But Daniels explained why he feels it would be a mistake to try to revive it, saying: “I feel like we wrapped up that story beautifully. The characters had closure. I would never want to do the same show again with a different cast, because I think we had the luckiest cast, the best cast ever, on TV, to do that show. So the idea of a reboot is not interesting.”
The office is one of those shows that doesn’t need a revival, but if it did, would you rather see it made as a series or a movie?
