TV creator Kevin Williamsonknown for creating hit series such as Dawson Creek AND the Vampire Diariesas well as writing the He shouted AND I know what you did last summer franchise, is tackling some new series adaptations for Universal Television.
The first is the work of the master of the suspense thriller Alfred Hitchcock, in a serial version of his classic film, Rear window. Williamson will write the retelling, which Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox are executive producing alongside Williamson, Fast and MKT Productions. The 1954 thriller Rear window was directed by Hitchcock from a screenplay by John Michael Hayes based on Cornell Woolrich’s 1942 short story “It Had to Be Murder.” Starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly, the film earned four Oscar nominations, including best director and best adapted screenplay. A 1998 television adaptation starred Christopher Reeve and Daryl Hannah.
Williamson is also writing The seasidean original concept that takes him back to the North Carolina roots he previously explored in his first TV series, Dawson Creek (and used as inspiration for the name of his production company). The family drama, produced by Williamson and Fast executives, follows the dysfunctional Buckleys as they struggle to keep their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire afloat.
Next is the series The It Girlbased on the book by the #1 bestselling author. 1 of the New York Times Ruth Ware, with Sarah L. Thompson (Bridgerton, Yellow jackets) co-writer with Williamson. Ware serves as executive producer along with co-writers Williamson and Thompson, and the story follows a woman searching for answers ten years after her friend’s murder.
In The game, after a wealthy San Francisco banker is given the opportunity to play a mysterious game, his life is turned upside down when he begins to wonder if there really could be a hidden conspiracy to destroy him. Brancato and Ferris serve as executive producers along with Williamson and Fast. The search for a writer is underway. Fincher’s 1997 mystery thriller The game it was a great movie with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. Produced by Propaganda Films and distributed by PolyGram, it was eventually acquired by Universal Pictures.
