Denzel Washington and director Spike Lee are reuniting for a new film project titled High and low for original Apple and A24 films. The film is an English-language retelling of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller.
The original film explores themes of class division and morality. Set in post-war Japan, the story follows a wealthy businessman, Kingo Gondo, whose life is turned upside down when he becomes the victim of extortion when his driver’s son is mistakenly kidnapped and held hostage for ransom.
The film’s screenplay was written by Lee and Alan Foxbut there are no details on how the new film’s story will differ from the original.
High and low It is the fifth time Lee and Washington have worked together, the last time being in 2006 Inside the man. A24 will release the film theatrically ahead of its global launch on Apple TV+.
