AS Taylor Sheridan’SYellowstone continues development in the second half of season 5, a new report has surfaced stating that Kevin Costner he wants to return to the series for the final episodes of the series.
Yellowstone is looking to resume filming the final episodes of Season 5 later this year, but the story is developing without series lead Kevin Costner. It was previously reported that Costner would not appear in the final episodes and there were no plans for him to return as John Dutton. Now, it looks like things might be a little more complicated as Costner might actually want to return.
According to a new report from Puck News, one of Costner’s camp representatives has asked Sheridan to allow the actor to return to finish his final arc with the series. The big question is: Will Sheridan agree to bring him back?
The creator is also reportedly happy with how he wrote the final episodes of season five without John Dutton’s involvement, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Sheridan previously said of the issue: “I’m disappointed. It truncates the closure of his character. It doesn’t alter him, but it truncates him… I don’t like car accidents. Both [Dutton’s] destiny swells [Costner’s] Ego or insults are collateral damage that I don’t take into account when it comes to storytelling.”
He added: “My opinion of Kevin as an actor hasn’t changed. His creation of John Dutton is symbolic and powerful… and I’ve never had a problem with Kevin that we couldn’t resolve over the phone. But once the lawyers, people can’t talk to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and try to shift the blame based on how the press or the public seems to react. I lie and I don’t know if anyone deserves it. His film It seems to be a big priority for him and he wants to shift the focus. I sure hope that [the movie is] It’s worth it – and it’s good.”
Costner explained that if things had gone better, the Yellowstone the series would continue with a sixth and seventh season. Costner was also in talks for these two additional seasons, but then everything fell apart.
The actor explained the situation by saying that there were negotiations for the next seasons Yellowstone and that he had been offered $24 million to make seasons 5, 6 and 7. But there were “creative problems” and that his talks with Sheridan and the series producers were trying to “break the logjam”. He clarified that it was the producer, not him, who walked away from the table. Costner also indicated that he will “probably go to court” over his departure from the series.
With Yellowstone coming to an end, the story will continue with some of the same characters in a spin-off series driven Matthew McConaughey.
