Review: DARK MATTER 49in CURVED MONITOR by MONOPRICE is glorious

I know we just reviewed a Monoprice monitor a few weeks ago, but here we are with another one. While the Crystal Pro monitor gets the job done quite well and is a good piece of hardware, there were some drawbacks and issues that were hard to ignore. However, Monoprice’s Dark Matter 49-inch Curved Monitor is a phenomenal piece to add to anyone’s PC setup.

The Dark Matter Monitor is a beast. When I opened it and took it out of the box for the first time, I couldn’t help but giggle and giggle at the wonderfully absurd size of the thing. After assembling the stand and monitor and connecting it to the PC, setup with the PC was smooth and seamless, ready to play in less than a minute. Playing games like Destiny 2 and Mini Motorways were amazing because they took up the entire screen and really immersed me in the experience from edge to edge. The sharp display, vibrant colors and fast refresh rate make it a great screen for whatever you’re doing. However, most games don’t run well or at all in ultra widescreen mode, so I would play with long black borders or in a window. But this gets to the real purpose of a large display, multitasking. Having Discord on one side, gaming in the middle, and homework/work/YouTube/shopping on the other is a dream come true.

This ultrawide dream is possible and it’s also so beautiful thanks to its curved style. I’d never been that impressed with curved TVs or monitors before, but I think that was because they were just slightly wider than regular screens positioned further away from me. However, being up close to a very large, perfectly curved screen is fantastic. I can see from corner to corner with no problem and with little work on my eyes. This curve is probably what drives the price up, but if you are ready to make this type of investment, then it may be worth it.

Let’s talk about that elephant in the room, high prices for a wider, curved screen. Monoprice is known for its competitive prices compared to other outlets and brands, but that doesn’t mean it’s not something to consider. Even though it’s on sale right now, it’s still a purchase that can rival a PC or modern gaming console. While I found it to be worth the price due to the quality and performance, this is quite a luxury and not a huge improvement to the overall gaming experience.

Overall, the Dark Matter 49-inch Curved Monitor is an incredible display that is sure to make anyone envious. Even though the cost is relatively low, it works just as well as any high-end screen I’ve seen and can totally envelop you. It looks great, works extremely well and is quite reasonably priced, what more could you ask for?
