I have some new concept art to share with you today Echo and highlights Marvel Studios’ original plans to give Maya Lopez superpowers that were more in line with the comic book version of the character. These powers allowed her to predict the moves of her opponents…
In the comic, Maya Lopez is an Olympic-level athlete who possesses “photographic reflexes,” or the ability to perfectly copy other people’s movements. The way her powers were loosely portrayed in the series is that they were passed down to Maya from her Choctaw ancestors.
The art comes from concept artist Andrew Kim, who said: “I had a LOT of fun with this keyframe [Echo]. When crafting this concept, the idea was that she had the power to predict her opponents’ movements and react accordingly to avoid their strikes/tackles. So she would have choices to choose from to make her next moves. In the actual show, I didn’t see any of that, so I guess that part was cut, but still, I had a blast painting this.”
You can scroll through the various concept art below to see how the artist presented them visually.
