Top Gun: nonconformist was a huge hit for movie theaters, Universal, stars Tom Cruiseand director Joseph Kosinski. While fans raved about the fantastic story, incredible action, and super talented cast, it turns out one character was almost played by another actor.
In the film, the character of Admiral Beau “Cyclone” Simpson was played by the Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee Jon Hamm. But we could have seen another great actor in the role, as it was thanks to Hamm and the Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (Milk, It is no country for old men, Avengers: Endgame).
Kosinski recently appeared on the Happy Say Confused podcast, where he explained:
“Brolin was on my mind. For me, you know, you always have to – you can’t put all your eggs in one basket – so for me Brolin and Hamm were the top two… Yes, Josh would have “Hamm played this role. We talked about it, but he was having a baby right when we were about to start filming, so I knew that wasn’t a possibility. Brolin and Hamm, both guys I’d be excited to work with again.”
Josh Brolin would have been great in the role, but Jon Hamm did a fantastic job. Both are great actors and safe bets. There is no word yet on whether Hamm will return Top Gun 3but I guess it’s safe to say we might see it again.
