Mortal Combat II has concluded production and Carlo Urbano, who plays the role of Johnny Cage in the film, recently spoke about his experience filming the film. He said on Instagram that it was “the most action-packed fun he’s ever had” on a movie. So, that’s great! It’s great to hear when actors have fun with the projects they work on. Urban shared a photo of him along with the following comments:
This is a final photo of me and Johnny Cage on Mortal Kombat 2! A huge thank you to our incredible crew, cast and phenomenal stunt team. Without a doubt the most action-packed fun I’ve ever had in a movie! I can’t wait for you all to see it. Special thanks to everyone who helped make this time here on Australia’s Gold Coast such a pleasure.
The film is directed by Simon McQuoidwho also directed the first film, Urban is joined in the film by Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson like Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim like Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion e Max Huang as Kung Lao.
New characters for Mortal Combat 2 to include Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, Tati Gabrielle in the role of Giada, Adeline Rodolfo as Kitana, Desmond Call as King Jerrod, Damon Herriman like Quan Chi, and CJ Bloomfield like Baraka.
The screenplay was written by Jeremy Slaterthat he worked on previously Knight of the Moon AND The Umbrella Academy. Previously speaking about the sequel, Slater said:
“I feel like the blood in Mortal Kombat is great and it’s part of what people come for, you always have to find that balance between fun blood and gross gore, right? Because there are times when you rip out someone’s heart or kill the best in the world.” the first movie is Kung Lao’s spinning hat that cuts her in half and it’s the perfect example of funny gore because it’s disgusting, but everyone laughs at the same time, right? You want to make sure that everyone is laughing at the sort of audacity of the gore and not sitting there sort of disgusted by close-ups of dripping guts and visceral and things like that.
“There’s a tongue-in-cheek aspect to Mortal Kombat in terms of the violence and the gore, there’s a little bit of winking at the audience and saying, ‘Yeah, we know it’s ridiculous, but it’s really fun and we’re all okay about the joke.” And when you get the balance right, I think that’s where you get moments like that incredibly bloody first battle that opens the first movie with the soundtrack with Hanzo blowing all the assassins to pieces or you get the gag of the hat or something. So we’re trying to emulate those gory moments from the first one that were really, really successful and got huge reactions from the audience, and how can we give the audience even more this time.”
Mortal Combat II has yet to set a release date.
