Some casting news has arrived regarding the director Jason Reitmannthe next historical drama, SNL 1975. Reitman co-wrote the film with his writing partner Gil Kenanthat he had written previously Ghostbusters: Afterlife with. The film will follow the story behind the scenes in the moments leading up to it SNLwas first broadcast on October 11, 1975, when a troupe of young comedians changed TV forever.
Gabriel LaBellestar of Steven Spielberg biopic The Fabelmanswill take on the role of Saturday night live Chief Lorne Michaels. Cooper Hoffmann (Licorice pizza) was cast in the film as Dick Ebersol, and Rachel Sennot (Funds) will play Rosie Shuster.
The film’s full synopsis reads: “On October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. SNL 1975 is the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night in the moments before SNL first aired. He describes the chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t there, counting the minutes in real time until the infamous words: “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” The screenplay is based on an extensive series of interviews conducted by Reitman and Kenan with all living cast, writers and crew.
I watched SNL my whole life and I really can’t wait to watch this movie! I can’t wait to see who they choose as some of my favorite original cast members like it Gilda Radner, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. SNL 1975 is currently in pre-production and will probably be about a year away from hitting theaters. We’ll let you know more as it develops.
