The classic 1960s TV series The Avengers is getting a new reboot thanks to StudioCanal, which owns the rights to the property. This is a project that has apparently been in development for some time and the pilot episode has already been written.
The series is developed by Mickey down AND Konrad Kaythe writing team behind the hit HBO/BBC series Industry, and Sex education director Ben Taylor he is also co-creator and will direct the series. Warner Bros. production company Discovery Wall to Wall is co-producing.
The original series was created by Sidney Newman and presented a stylish and eccentric approach to espionage and crime-fighting. The series primarily follows the adventures of John Steed, played by Patrick Macnee, and a series of female partners who often displayed intelligence, wit, and a taste for fashion. Together, they explore a world of intrigue, espionage and bizarre criminals, also characterized by a distinctive sense of British charm and humour.
The Avengers it was adapted into a film in 1998 with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman in the lead roles. The movie wasn’t all that good and ended up failing at the box office. The film did so poorly that it failed to make its $60 million budget.
I’m sure the creative team will do everything they can to make a great new series to avoid how that movie turned out.
