GODZILLA MINUS ONE only cost million to make

Godzilla minus one has had truly exceptional cinematic success and has grossed over $100 million worldwide so far. We have now learned from Nikkei and Yahoo Japan that the budget for this Godzilla masterpiece was only $10 million at most!

This just goes to show that you don’t need 150-200 million dollars to make a great epic genre film! The budget for Legendary’s Godzilla the films have all been between $155 and $200 million, and with those budgets… they have no excuse to be as bad as they were. They can actually afford to hire great talent to develop these things and properly manage the material, but for some reason they keep dropping the ball.

Then a film like Godzilla minus one comes with its $10 million budget and puts all those films to shame. Hollywood still has a lot to learn about telling great stories in the films it makes. Directors can still make entertaining films with huge special effects and still tell a great story. You don’t have to sacrifice one for the other, but for some reason some of these studios can’t figure out how to do this effectively.

The black and white version of the film, Godzilla Minus One/Minus Colorwill be released in American theaters on Friday January 26th and will remain in theaters until February 1st.
