Searchlight Pictures has released a wonderful trailer for a new coming-of-age film titled Coast of the Sun. The film seems to tell a delightful and heartfelt story, and is inspired by the semi-autobiographical story of a teenager who, “while caring for her brother alongside her spunky mother, forms an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist who is protesting one of the most important medical cases of all time.
The film was written and directed by Laura Chinnwho is making his directorial debut, and has a strong cast that includes Laura Linney, Nico Parker, Ella Anderson, Daniella Taylor, Amarr, Ariel Martin, AND Woody Harrelson.
The film is inspired by Chinn’s teenage experiences. “Set in 2005 in St. Petersburg, Florida, Suncoast is a sensitively told coming-of-age story, in which Chinn’s young heroine finds friendship through unexpected connections and gestures and is forced to deal with the severity of her brother’s health her”.
Nico Parker plays Doris, “an awkward high schooler whose unique and disturbing home life ultimately offers her opportunities for her freedom and an unexpected entry into the popular boys’ clique.” In the film, “a mother and daughter face a situation bigger than themselves that creates a crescendo of profound emotional power and pathos.”
The film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and I hope to have the opportunity to watch it!
