In this age of social media madness, rumors start and spread like wildfire. It’s so ridiculous to see how fake news spreads so quickly and how many people believe it.
One of the most recent rumors that has been doing the rounds is this Taylor Swift there is the mysterious author, “Elly Conway”, behind the Argyle book that served as inspiration to the director Matthew Vaughnthe next action, spy and comedy film.
This news has been circulating on social media for months. “Elly Conway” is a pseudonym for the writer whose manuscript was “so amazing it led to a $200 million deal for the film rights.” He was a screenwriter Jason Fuchs who adapted the book into Vaughn’s film.
So how did this rumor start? Swift’s fans became convinced that she was the real “Elly Conway” because of her history of argyle sweaters and because the film prominently features a Scottish Fold cat, of which Swift owns two.
Vaughn finally debunks this rumor by saying, “I’m not a big fan of the Internet, and it was actually my daughter who came to me — that’s the power of celebrities and the Internet — and said, ‘You never told me Taylor wrote the book!’” And I see her saying, ‘What are you talking about, Taylor Swift wrote the book? She didn’t write the book!’ And I was laughing because I was thinking, ‘That’s not true!’ She didn’t write the book.” book!». But my daughter was convinced of it.”
He added: “There is a real book… and it’s a really good book. And there’s an Elly Conway who wrote the book, but she’s not Taylor Swift. And I say that because I imagine Taylor Swift has a lot of people trying to jump on her bandwagon left, right and center, and I don’t want to be part of that club. I read the conspiracies and thought, wow, they leave no stone unturned! But she’s not Taylor Swift. She definitely didn’t write the book.
But Vaughn admitted that Swift is the reason the Scottish Fold appears in the film. He said in an interview with Rolling Stone: “Ironically, what he’s responsible for is the Scottish Fold. One day I came home, it was Christmas, and I thought, ‘What the fuck is that noise?’ And I was running around the house and I heard a noise, and the kids had seen a documentary about Taylor Swift and there was a Scottish Fold, and they had convinced my wife, Claudia [Schiffer], to give him the kitten for Christmas. It was purchased without my permission and was hidden from me.”
Vaughn uses the family cat in the film. Elly Conway is the protagonist of the film and is played by Bryce Dallas Howard. Conway, “the reclusive author of a series of best-selling spy novels, whose idea of happiness is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books, centering on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate, begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.
Accompanied by Aiden (Sam Rockwell), “a cat-allergic spy, Elly (who carries Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of assassins as the lines between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begin to blur.”
The film features a stellar cast which also includes Henry Cavill, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Sofia Boutella, Ariana DeBose, Catherine O’HaraAND Samuel L. Jackson.
Argyle will be released in theaters on February 2, 2024.
