Andor star Diego Luna recently shared an update on the highly anticipated second season, and it’s pretty amazing! The actor revealed that he’s only about a week away from filming!
Luna spoke Variety on the Emmys red carpet and when asked about the production, he said, “I have seven days [left to shoot].” Luna will return to London today to continue filming Star Wars show.
So, the series is really close to finishing production, which is exciting! The series was originally supposed to come out this year, but may have been pushed back to 2025.
Creator Tony Gilroy he previously teased the series’ end, sharing that the creative team knows “exactly where we’re going” and that it was “creatively powerful” to know where the story is going. He said: “If you know your ending, it really helps. We know exactly where we are going. You know what you have to deliver emotionally and what the story has to do with it. It’s a survival decision, but it’s good for us creatively.”
Season 2 will conclude the series and take us through the years Diego LunaCassian Andor’s journey as a spy for the Rebellion and how he tracked down the secret to the construction of the Death Star. The story leads directly to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Gilroy explained how the story will unfold in the final season of the series by saying, “When we come back later, it will literally be like a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And then we’ll skip a year, and then it’ll be, like, four or five days, and then we’ll skip a year, and then it’ll be another four or five days, and then we’ll skip a year, and it’ll be another four or five days. I don’t know if anyone has ever done this before because I don’t know if anyone has had the chance to do this before. We are in the brand new era of making these shows. These shows are all new. This whole idea of how to make these shows and their economic reach is new, and everything is new.
Every three episodes in Andor Season two will cover a year of story, and speaking previously about what we can expect from the series, he explains that it will explore the stress, heartbreak and triumphs of the growing rebellion: “Think about the revolution, and think about it from Luthen Rael’s point of view, from Saw Gerrera’s point of view and Mon Mothma’s point of view. They started out as original gangsters in this thing, and it’s underground, and it’s secret, and it’s small, and it’s isolated, and contained. In four years, it’s going to be big. Think of any restaurant you knew that started as a coffee shop, think of any startup company. What happens? Things get very complicated. If the actions and transactions of your business are paranoia, secrecy, betrayal and heavy consequences, expand your business It’s really difficult.”
Gilroy went on to say, “So think about it from the Imperial side and they’re getting very, very close to a very major energy project. People may have heard about it. It’s an energy project. I guess it’s not a surprise, but I think you’ll see the wear and tear, you’ll see all the stress and all the pain and all the triumph of the 20 or 30 people that we’re bringing forward, with Cassian at the center. Those people stumble into a very complicated chaos and story that we’re going to pay attention to.
He added: “We will work on the calendar. There are events in our calendar and you know what they are, some of them, and they are very important, and we will play them.” I imagine some of this stuff involves the Death Star, but there’s also a lot of other stuff going on as the Rebellion is trying to fight the rise of the Empire.
The first season of Andor it was a really great show and I can’t wait to see how season 2 turns out!
