Gene Wilder he is one of my favorite actors ever and there is a biographical documentary that will cover the life and career of the iconic actor. The document is titled Remembering Gene Wilder and was acquired by distributor Kino Lorber.
Directed by Ron Frank and written by Glenn Kirschbaum, Remembering Gene Wilder will feature highlights from Wilder’s most memorable films, as well as interviews with his closest friends, family and fellow comics. Some of the projects Wilder has starred in throughout his career include The Producers, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Silver Streak, Hear No Evil, See No Eviland, of course, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
The film is said to be about the actor’s Jewish upbringing in Milwaukee, his marriage to Gilda Radner and the final chapter of his life with Alzheimer’s. It will include never-before-seen home footage, Wilder’s narration from the audiobook of his memoirs, and interviews with collaborators including Mel Brooks, Alan Alda, Carol Kane and his widow Karen Boyer Wilder.
Wendy LidellKino Lorber’s senior vice president of theatrical distribution and acquisitions said in a statement: “It’s hard not to smile when Gene Wilder is on screen, whether you watch him as Willy Wonka, Leo Bloom, Dr. Frankenstein, or any of his wildly creative and instantly memorable characters, Wilder’s humor, warmth and easy charisma are universally appealing.”
He continued: “In this loving, career-spanning documentary, Ron Frank has captured both the public Gene Wilder we all know and love, and the more private Gene, a funny, kind and gentle man, loved by his family, his his friends”. and confidants. We are thrilled to share this film with audiences around the world, so they can join us in spending 92 delightful minutes with the magic man behind the characters we love.”
The director added: “I first met Gene Wilder as so many others do: as a child at the cinema, laughing so hard at Blazing Saddles I almost fell off my seat. It has been a privilege to laugh, cry and remember Gene as we worked on this documentary, and it would not have been possible without the support of his wife Karen, his family and so many of his closest friends. We are delighted to partner with Kino Lorber to bring this film to audiences around the world and celebrate Gene’s legacy.”
The film will next screen as the closing film of the New York Jewish Film Festival on January 24. Kino Lorber is planning a theatrical release in March 2024, followed by a home video, non-theatrical and digital release.
The film is executive produced by the husband and wife production team Davide Cavaliere AND Giulia Nimoy of Health Point Productions; Julie’s father, Leonardo Nimoyhe was Wilder’s longtime friend and former director.
