Josh Hutcherson recalls losing the role of Peter Parker in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

The Hunger Games AND Five Nights at Freddy’s star Josh Hutcherson he was one of the finalists to take on the role of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man in the Sony Pictures film The Extraordinary Spider-Man in 2012. The part eventually went to Andrea Garfieldwho was great in the role, but Hutcherson was incredibly close to getting the role and also had a really interesting audition for director Marc Webb.

During a recent interview, Hutcherson talked about his experience and he’s still not entirely sure what he missed when he auditioned for the film. He said:

“You never find out. They just end up hiring someone else. So I never found out why. I also know that about three weeks after I auditioned, I ended up getting Hunger Games, so it worked out.

The actor went on to say that if the opportunity arose to play a variant of Spider-Man in Spider-Verse, he would be open to it. He said:

“Potentially yes. I’ve been a huge Spider-Man fan my whole life, growing up on old school cartoons and stuff like that. But yeah, I’d be open to it, man. I would throw some cobwebs around.

I think Hutcherson would have been great as Spider-Man, but he just wasn’t meant to be and it seems like his career is doing just fine without it. He currently stars in David Ayer’s new action thriller The beekeeper.
