Paramount Pictures is moving forward with something new Star Trek movie and hired a new writer and director to develop it. Toby Haynes (Andor, Sherlock, Black Mirror) will direct the film which is said to expand on the theme Star Trek universe e Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter) will write the screenplay. JJ Abrams’Bad Robot is producing.
All we know about the film so far is that it’s “an origin story that takes place decades before the 2009 Star Trek film that rebooted the franchise.” This is an interesting creative team for the project, and while we have a long way to go, I’m curious to see what comes of it… if it actually gets made.
As you know, Paramount Pictures has had trouble getting another Star Trek movie off the ground. They tried to get a Star Trek 4 film made for years! In this regard, the report emphasizes that this is a different project from Star Trek 4, which is still in active development. It is said to be “the final chapter of the main series”.
Although the studio had difficulty obtaining a Star Trek movie made, Paramount+ did it big with their Star Trek show with Picard AND Strange new worlds. I’m really excited about this Picard that movie Patrick Stewart recently revealed is in development!
