Saoirse Ronan has had a solid career, already being nominated for four Oscars and giving us solid performances in films Atonement, lovable remains, Hannah, Brooklyn, Lady BirdAND Little Womenamong many others, and while that’s already an impressive list, she also had the chance to play Yelena Belova in the MCU.
She was offered the role of Natasha/Black Widow’s sister in the film Black Widowwhich ultimately went to her Little Women co-star, Florence Pugh.
The information was revealed by Deadline’s Justin Kroll during a recent appearance on The Town podcast (via CBM), where he said:
«The Saoirse thing, I heard things she told me. She died in Florence [Pugh]the role of Black Widow, the sister. Marvel wasn’t in her cup of tea and she wasn’t interested.
Some people see Marvel roles as a stable job with a good-sized salary, but others are more likely to work on a wider variety of projects, with more freedom to choose what comes next. There is no fault in either path and Ronan has done well for herself by not taking on this role. Plus Pugh was perfect as Yelena.
Ronan can next be seen in this year’s drama The Outrunbased on By Amy Liptrot bestselling memoir, in theaters January 19.
