The trailer of which has been released Matthew Vaughnthe next action spy comedy Argyle contains only footage from the first 28 minutes of the film. Then the plot takes a big turn. According to Total Film, these major plot elements will remain a surprise until the film’s release.
Vaughn offered some further insight into the film and his plan for the future of the franchise. He has two more films ready and they will be based on the upcoming novels of fictional author Elly Conway, who is the main character in the film played by Bryce Dallas Howard.
It was explained that while this first film was its own meta-mischievous take on the material, the sequels will be closer to the books. The director said, “The first book is about: How did Argylle become a spy? That’ll be the next movie. And then Argylle 2 is – I don’t want to give it all away, but there’s young Argylle, and that becomes Henry , because Henry also loves the idea of making a real movie about Argylle.”
Henry Cavill he was then asked if he would be willing to return to play Agent Argylle again, and he replied: “I think it’s a fun character. I mean, it depends where we go, really, like with anything. I have a great relationship with Matthew, so that would be the hardest part to solve. The next part is just building a story. As long as the story is good, and the character has a place to go, and it fits with everything else I’ve got I’m trying to building and doing, so great.”
Vaughn goes on to talk about making original films like this by saying, “Everyone complains that there’s not enough original material, but that’s because they don’t go and see it. People have to buy tickets first, otherwise there will be nothing.”
He’s right. Hopefully, as filmmakers continue to make good original films, people will go out and see them, so we can see more filmmakers trying to make new and different things.
In the movie, “Bryce Dallas Howard is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling spy novels, whose idea of happiness is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books, centering on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate, begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. “
Accompanied by Aiden (Sam Rockwell), “a cat-allergic spy, Elly (who carries Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of assassins as the lines between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begin to blur.”
