Marvel Studios’ Knight of the Moon introduced fans to a complex and mysterious hero, Marc Spector, better known as Moon Knight. The series may not have been great, but the character he is based on is certainly fascinating as he has multiple personalities.
At the end of the series, viewers were given a tantalizing glimpse into another aspect of this enigmatic hero’s psyche: Jake Lockley. In a recent revelation, director Mohamed Diab offered insights into the deliberate decision to keep Jake Lockley shrouded in mystery throughout the series, providing fans with an unprecedented sense of suspense.
In Moon Knight, fans were treated to a rollercoaster of action, supernatural elements, and psychological twists. However, one of Spector’s personalities who remained largely in the shadows was Jake Lockley. Described as the third identity of the vigilante Moon Knight, Jake Lockley’s presence in the series has been deliberately kept under wraps, leaving fans wondering what his significance and role in the story is.
In an interview featured in Marvel Studios’ “Moon Knight: The Art of the Series,” Diab shed light on the intentional mystique surrounding Jake Lockley. Diab explained that the decision to keep Jake in the shadows was a conscious choice, designed to inject an element of unpredictability into the narrative.
Diab explained: “We’ve all seen huge action sequences before, but now anything can happen in a second. You can be transferred somewhere else and you don’t know what happened. Even the protagonist doesn’t know what happened! That glued the people to their chairs.”
As the series progressed, the revelation that the blackouts Marc Spector experienced were, in fact, linked to Jake Lockley took some fans by surprise. Diab shared his thoughts on this significant plot development, saying, “And in the end, we found out that Blackouts was actually Jake. It was a big question: Will Jake be on our show or not? In some versions we tried to have him , but ultimately he was on the show without being on the show — and I love it.”
This approach made it possible Knight of the Moon to maintain his sense of unpredictability and kept fans guessing about Jake’s true nature and motivations. It also reinforced the show’s central theme of identity, showing Marc Spector’s struggle to understand the various characters that reside within him.
While the series may have revealed Jake Lockley’s presence and role, there is still much to explore about this complex character. We have no idea if Marvel plans to do anything more with Moon Knight. There are a lot of crazy and interesting things they could explore with him. It would be a shame if they didn’t return to revisit the character.
But Oscar Isaac said there are currently no plans to continue Knight of the Moon. Would you like to see Moon Knight return to the MCU?
