James Gunn prepares to film SUPERMAN: LEGACY in March and tackles the plot summary

A brief summary of the plot for James GunnSuperman: Legacy has emerged as the film prepares for production in March 2024. That revelation comes from Gunn himself, who also addressed the shared synopsis. The synopsis reads:

“Superman, a young reporter from Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.”

Yep, there’s really not much to say about this one and nothing truly surprising has been revealed. Gunn said of the summary:

“I’m not sure where this logline came from. I didn’t write it. It has elements of truth (obviously based on things I’ve said in the past). But I wouldn’t describe the plot that way, and I wouldn’t call Clark a novice journalist. He is a thirty-year-old reporter in all respects. But yes, we shoot in March. I am grateful every day that our production team worked hard to keep things going during the strikes. Forces forced us to stop many times, and if we had, we would never have made it to July 2025. The most exciting and interesting aspect of the project that has been reported throughout the casting, is that it reveals that the film will be filled with many different characters and superheroes.

David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, Skyler Gisondo like Jimmy Olsen, and María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer.

I’m really curious to see what kind of Superman story Gunn ends up creating with all these characters. There are even more that have yet to be announced!

The director recently addressed the huge cast by saying, “What movie with a single protagonist doesn’t have more than ten speaking roles?” asked Gunn. “There will be more.”

Superman: Legacy will launch the cinematic portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
