From the Indian Hobale Films, action epic Salar: Part 1 He sees a gang leader make a promise to a dying friend by taking on other criminal gangs. Written by director Prashanth Neel and produced by Vijay Kiragandur, the film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan and Jagapathi Babu.
After making history with SS Rajamouli Baahubali Films that marked a turning point for Telugu cinema with Prabhas working with him for the first time Salar: Part I Filmmaker Neel, known for the highly successful Kannada KGF Franchise. This continues with the intersection for the regional industries.
Deadline recently spoke to Prabhas about this Salar and its sequel, but also what drives it and the development of Indian cinema.
DEADLINE: How did you get involved? Salar Movies?
PRABHAS: I was attracted to the project because of its unique script and the opportunity to work with a talented team. The story and the character Salar fascinated me and I saw it as an opportunity to discover something new in my career.
DEADLINE: What is certain? Salar apart from other films you have done before?
PRABHAS: Salar stands out for its compelling plot, intense characters and director Prashanth Neel’s vision. The film offers me a fresh and challenging role and the whole film experience promises to be unique and impressive.
DEADLINE: This is your first collaboration with Prashanth Neel; How was the process for him?
PRABHAS: Working with Prashanth Neel was a rewarding experience. His clear vision and passion for storytelling made the process of filmmaking both entertaining and rewarding. The synergy between us helped bring the character and story to life.
DEADLINE: What’s the status of the sequel?
PRABHAS: There is a Part 2 and at the end you see the continuity part Part 1. Part 2 will be much greater than Part 1. I feel lucky to work with Prashanth Neel in both parts of the film.
DEADLINE: After the success of the Baahubali When it comes to your films, do you feel the need to outdo yourself with each new project?
PRABHAS: While the success of Baahubali Setting a high standard, I approach every project with a commitment to do my best. Rather than striving to surpass past successes, I focus on choosing varied and challenging roles that allow me to grow as an actor.
DEADLINE: What is the current sentiment in India about the various regional industries? Many of my conversations with actors and filmmakers over the past year have been about breaking down the boundaries between industries and talking more about Indian cinema than Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, etc.
PRABHAS: The mood in India seems to be shifting towards a more unified approach to cinema that transcends regional boundaries. There is a growing appreciation for diverse stories and discussions about Indian cinema as a whole – rather than being limited to Bollywood, Tollywood or Kollywood – are becoming more common.
DEADLINE: How do you see audience tastes evolving within and outside India?
PRABHAS: Indian audiences both in the country and in the diaspora are increasingly embracing diverse content. There is a need for meaningful stories, fresh stories and innovative filmmaking across all genres. Evolving tastes indicate a broader appreciation of quality theatre.
DEADLINE: Who would be your dream partner in the future?
PRABHAS: It was fantastic to work with directors like Rajamouli and Prashanth Neel. I look forward to working with filmmakers like Nag Ashwin (op Kalki 2898 AD) and Sandeep Vanga (op spirit). It will be a great experience for the audience and me.
