Until the film hits the streaming service, it will be shown exclusively in cinemas for 64 days. The film has earned $17.4 million at the domestic box office so far.
The film in which Payne once again collaborates with his own Sideways Star Paul Giamatti follows the latter as teacher Paul Hunham, a high school teacher from Massachusetts who leaves school during Christmas break with a handful of misfit students; the boys stranded by their parents. Eventually, Paul forms an unlikely bond with one of them—a damaged, smart troublemaker (newcomer Dominic Sessa)—and the principal who just lost a son in Vietnam (Da’Vine Joy Randolph). David Hemingson wrote the screenplay; The film is certified 96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
