Kelsey Grammer talks returning to FRASIER and says she hopes the series continues for another 100 episodes

Now that the strikes are over, actors and creators can jump back in with both feet and promote the projects they’re working on. Kelsey Grammer is thrilled to be able to do so as he launches the first season of his reboot Frasier series. When he talks to Variety about what it means to return to his most iconic role, Grammer is moved and thrilled by the fact of being able to work with Greetings AND Frasier Creator James Burrows once again, who is a dear friend of his.

It also speaks to the fact that one of the most talked about and talked about parts of the reboot on fan forums was Frasier’s wardrobe! The new Frasier has traded in his designer clothes for sneakers and jeans, and Grammer comments on the decision, saying:

“I thought it was a natural progression for him. But also natural for me. People didn’t talk about it much during the old iteration of the show. But my feet were always a problem. And years ago a couple of podiatrists noticed the show and asked me “what’s going on with your feet?” I have a gait problem, it’s just because my ankles are really, really bad. That’s fine, but it’s a little easier to wear those shoes than to wear a bunch of custom-made brogues and all that.”

In addition to updating Frasier’s wardrobe, the revival seems tailor-made for Grammer. Burrows said that when Grammer returned to play the role, in front of a live audience, “Kelsey had them in the palm of her hand”. That’s why the star is ready to go the distance with this iteration of “Frasier.”

“I think we should get to at least 100 more episodes. There is enough groundwork laid among these humans; they are wonderful characters. I want to see where they go. And I want to see what happens to Frasier.

In the new series, the character has ended his successful television show and returned to Boston to reconnect with his now adult son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), and his nephew David (Anders Keith). An old friend from Oxford, Alan (Nicholas Lyndhurst), soon convinces him to try his hand as a Harvard teacher, in a psychology department directed by Olivia (Toks Olagundoye). The series also sees the return of Bebe Neuwirth as Frasier’s ex, Lilith, and Peri Gilpin as his former radio producer, Roz.

As for whether or not we’ll see David Hyde Pierce return to play Frasier’s brother Dr. Niles Crane, Grammer says he approached him about a full return to the series early in development, and Pierce said he wasn’t interested to return. to play the character. But when asked if he might be seen in a cameo later in the series, Grammer replied:

“I mean, we have Niles’ son on the show. It would be nice for this to happen. We won’t force it; we’ll see what happens. We can certainly write to him. There are probably a lot of people in the world who have seen ‘Frasier’ and would really celebrate seeing it again.”

Niles was my favorite character in the original series. He was so ridiculous and such a physical comedian. If you want to see one of the best comedy episodes on television, do yourself a favor and watch Frasier Season 6, Episode 14, “Three Valentines.” That whole series is amazing. I hope the new series is just as fun and engaging, and we see it last 100 episodes or more.
