As of now, one of the most anticipated sequels on Marvel’s upcoming slate is Spider-Man 4a film without a director, writer, plot or even protagonist, given that Spider-Man from the MCU, Tom Holland, said he won’t commit to the sequel until he reads the script. I’m sure he’ll sign on sooner or later, as our Peter Parker left off on a sad cliffhanger the last time we saw him, and it would be ridiculous of the studio not to rectify the plot for the fans. But while we wait for all the details, an interesting rumor has surfaced regarding the basis of the next film.
The film will reportedly pick up shortly after the events of the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, with a triumphant Mayor Fisk outlawing street vigilantes. This will bring Spider-Man and Daredevil together, presumably to defeat Wilson Fisk once and for all.
CBM reports it @Cryptic4Qualone of X’s “scoopers” who has developed a reliable track record this year, claims to have heard some details about Spider-Man 4 and says that “it was described to me as a street-level civil war.”
Captain America Civil War saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes split in half during the Sokovia Accords, so this comparison is interesting. Could it be that some vigilantes will side with Fisk? Could we see the Mayor assemble his team of Thunderbolts or Dark Avengers to take on Spidey and the Man Without Fear?
With Daredevil: Born Again under creative review, Spider-Man 4 is unlikely to come our way until the series arrives on Disney+. We’re also not sure how an adventure like this will set the stage for Peter Parker to be at the center of the Multiversal epic. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
