The next movie in ghost Buster the franchise is highly anticipated Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empirewhich will bring together the new cast members of Ghostbusters: AfterlifeIncluded Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn WolfhardAND McKenna Gracewith members of the original cast Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, AND Ernie Hudsonand the new arrivals Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjianicomic James AcasterAND Emily Alyn Lind.
In this new film, “the Spengler family returns to where it all began – the iconic New York firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who have developed a top-secret research laboratory to bring ghost eradication to a higher level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, the old and new Ghostbusters must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
The trailer teases a much darker film, where New Yorkers are freezing to death and ghosts are perhaps scarier than ever. Star of the film Kumail Nanjiani confirms the terrifying aspects of the film, telling UPI in a recent interview (via /Film):
“There’s really, really scary stuff. Scary stuff is really scary. The danger is very real and the stakes are very high. That makes comedy even funnier.”
Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-writer and executive producer Gil Kenan is directing the sequel, with the director and co-writer of Afterlife Jason Reitmann serving as writer and executive producer.
