David Leitch hopes his film THE FALL GUY will celebrate the underrated profession of Hollywood stuntmen

Stuntman turned director David Leitch he began his career as a stunt double for the actor Brad Pittand now he’s taking that experience and pouring it into his next film, The boy of autumnhero Ryan Gosling AND Emily Blunt. “We celebrate stunts,” Leitch says in the new 2024 preview issue of Total Film, which hits shelves this week.

“When we were making a stunt movie in this world of stunts, we just felt we had to be authentic and do it practically.”

Leitch hopes so The boy of autumn will shed light and give long-awaited credit to the stuntmen who risk everything to bring the action scenes to life on screen. The director explains:

“That was always one of the goals. I think this signifies where we’re headed with the Academy. How can we get stunts recognized? Obviously there’s that, but it’s not about fame and glory and things like that. They would love to be able to celebrate with the rest of the crew in the joy of making films.

The film is inspired by the series that aired from 1981 to 1986 and starred in it Lee Majors as a Hollywood stuntman.

The synopsis reads: “He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot at, crashed, thrown through windows, and dropped from the highest heights, all for our fun. And now, fresh from an accident that nearly ended his career, this working-class hero must track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy, and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his job daily. What could be good?”

Gosling plays Colt Seavers, “a battle-scarred stuntman who, after leaving the business a year earlier to focus on his physical and mental health, is called back into service when he stars in a big-budget studio film, directed by his ex, Jody Moreno, played by Blunt, disappears.

While the ruthless producer of the film Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), “maneuvers to curb the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) a studio and media secret, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to get back into Jody’s good graces. But as the mystery surrounding the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself trapped in a sinister criminal plot that will push him to the brink of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.

The film is also the protagonist Stephanie Hsu, Teresa Palmer AND Winston Duke. The boy of autumn will be released in theaters on March 1, 2024.
