Amazon Studios has officially renewed itself Neil Gaiman’S Good omens for a third and final season. Michael Sheen AND David Tennant will return to reprise their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley. This series was originally supposed to be a one-season limited series, but fans and Amazon loved it so much that they decided to add more seasons to the story.
Gaiman, who continues as executive producer, writer and showrunner. shared in a statement, “I am so happy to finally be able to finish the story that Terry and I plotted in 1989 and 2006. Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could bring the story all the way to the movies. ” end. The first season was all about avoiding Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the end of the world. Season two was sweet and kind, though it may have ended less joyfully than a certain angel and demon might have hoped. Now, in season three, we will once again face the end of the world. Plans for Armageddon are going awry. Only Crowley and Aziraphale, working together, can hope to make things right. And they don’t talk.”
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, added: “Good Omens checked every box for a smart, witty and funny comedy that not only made it a hit on Prime Video but also made ‘goodness’ watchable and entertaining thanks to Neil and Terry’s immense creativity. The final season is sure to be filled with the same dynamic energy that our global customers have come to enjoy.”
Gaiman previously talked about how he never wanted the Season 2 story arc to be the second chapter. He is Terry Pratchett they had already been working on a sequel to the fantasy comedy, but this season is not the story they made up. Gaiman came up with a different story for the second season that could serve as a link between the first and third seasons. Then, the third season would tell the story of the sequel that he and Pratchett concocted.
We don’t know any of the major plot details of the third chapter of the story, but in a previous interview with Tennant and Sheen, they were asked if there were any time periods they would like to explore in the third season, to which Sheen replied: “Well, There are a lot of them, aren’t there?” Tennant added: “There are all sorts of possibilities, aren’t there? I mean, we also love shooting those scenes in different time periods. They’re so much fun to do… Partly because of the nature of the dressing up, but also because it shows little snippets of the relationship and little aspects of the characters and how they’ve developed. And it’s so wonderful to do.”
Tennant then shared that it would be fun to see Aziraphale and Crowley in the ’80s: “It might be cool to see Aziraphale and Crowley in the ’80s. I would almost certainly dress up as some sort of Gordon Gekko.” [Michael Douglas in Wall Street] figure.” Sheen went on to share, “And I would be very [the British pop group] Haircut 100.”
