AMC canceled Bob Odenkirk’S Lucky Hank comedy-drama series after just one season. This was Odenkirk’s next big series after Better Call Saul concluded its run. The series didn’t do very well, and the first season ended its run with only 260,000 same-day viewers.
The series is based on the novel Straight Man by Richard Russo and tells a “midlife crisis story” that takes place on a fictional college campus in the Pennsylvania Rust Belt. Odenkirk plays William Henry “Hank” Devereaux Jr., the unlikely chair of the college’s English department.
The network did a terrible job advertising this series as I don’t even remember it being released! If you want people to watch your series, you need to let them know it’s coming out! Aaron Zelmann (Damage) AND Paolo Lieberstein (The office) adapted the book and served as co-showrunners.
AMC said in a statement: “We are proud of Lucky Hank and grateful for the work of everyone who brought this unique, playful and deeply human show to viewers, from the talented creative team to our partners at Sony and, of course, Bob. , Mireille [Enos] and the entire cast and crew. Unfortunately, we are unable to move forward with a second season, but we are pleased that these eight episodes exist on AMC+ and will continue to find new fans – or be seen again by viewers who return to spend more time with Hank, Lily and the others . cast of fun characters at Railton College.
I like Odenkirk and even if he doesn’t get the chance to make a second season of Lucky Hank, I know he will end up finding a new project to take on.
