Actor Kurt Russell he played an otherworldly father to the director James Gunn before, when he appeared in the MCU sequel Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 as Star-Lord’s father, the celestial being, Ego. Now rumors are circulating that Gunn, who likes to repeat work with his favorite actors, may want to cast Russell in the role of Jor-El, Superman’s father, in Gunn’s next film. Superman: Legacy.
Russell addressed the rumors in a recent interview with ComicBook, where he sat down to discuss his Apple TV+ series, Monarch: Monster Legacyin which he plays with his son, Wyatt Russell. When Kurt was asked if he would like to take the role, he said:
“Yes! Yes, I will face Marlon Brando!” Kurt Russell boasted, referring to Brando’s role in Richard Donner’s classic Superman film. After a hearty laugh, the actor continued, “I mean, there was something amazing about the way he looked around – I don’t care if he was watching his lines – it’s crazy, amazing to watch!”
As for directly addressing the rumors, Kurt Russell only hints that – while he hasn’t heard anything official – perhaps there could be room for Jor-El to be explored in a new way.
“You know what: We don’t know much about Jor-El. Maybe there’s a version… I’ve never heard it, so I don’t know. It was great working with James Gunn, so, you know.”
I think Kurt Russell would be great in this role. If chosen, he would join David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, e María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer.
This was also recently announced Sara Sampaio, the Portuguese Victoria’s Secret model, was cast as Eve Teschmacher, the assistant and sometimes lover of the scheming villain Lex Luthor. Teschmacher is a character who made his debut in Richard Donner’s Superman and was played by Valerie Perrine. Sean Gunn he was also recently cast as Maxwell Lord in the DC Universe and may appear in the upcoming film.
