The creators of STRANGER THINGS tease future spinoffs and what these stories won’t entail

The Duffer Brothers are preparing to return to hawkins next month as the fifth and final season of has been announced Stranger things filming will begin in January. They’ve always said that this season will tie the story together and complete the journey that we’ve been on with these guys since the beginning of the story. In a recent interview with The Guardian, they doubled down on the excitement for the final season and teased the future of the franchise, while also clarifying what we won’t see in a possible spin-off. Matt explained:

“This season – it’s like the first season on steroids. It’s the biggest it’s ever been in terms of size, but it’s been really fun, because everyone’s back together in Hawkins: the kids and Eleven interact more in line with how it was in the first season. And yes, there may be spin-offs, but the story of Eleven and Dustin and Lucas and Hopper, their stories end here. That’s all… Outside of the show. So if you want to see more, go see the show.

The play he is referring to is Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which serves as a prequel to the series. The play is set in Hawkins, 1959. The first shadow takes place “before the world was turned upside down.”

The official plot synopsis reads:

“Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister doesn’t take her radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family discovers that a new beginning isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past are very long-lasting. Brought to life by an award-winning creative team, taking theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to a whole new dimension, this gripping new adventure will take you back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story – and may hold the key to the END.”

The world premiere will take place on 14 December at the Phoenix Theater in London’s West End, with previews starting on 17 November. It will continue until August 25, 2024.

Aside from the prequel game, what stories would you like to see told in the world of Stranger things?
