Neal McDonough teases “rumbling” about how Dum Dum Dugan could return to the MCU

From Marvel Captain America: The First Avenger introduced The Howling Commandos to the MCU and I would have loved to see Marvel explore some of those other characters more! The Howling Commandos were an elite combat unit led by Captain America during World War II. After the war ended and Captain America was believed to be dead, their unit continued to go on missions and was led by Dum Dum Dugan.

Dum Dum Dugan was played perfectly Neal McDonough and made some additional appearances Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carterand the What if…? animated series. I still think there could have been a spin-off movie that told another story with these characters. They were all so colorful and it’s a shame Marvel never did anything with them.

During a recent interview with CB, McDonough talked about how there have been “rumblings” about how they might bring back Dum Dum Dugan, saying:

“There have always been rumors about how we could do it. You know, in the comics, when Nick Fury was hit by a bullet, some of the blood from the Super Serum ended up on Dum Dum, so he lived a long time – aging faster than Nick Fury. , but he’s still out there, and still might be.”

The actor went on to say that he is ready and willing to return and reprise the role if Marvel Studios contacts him:

“I loved Dum Dum. I loved everything about him. I loved that I had to put on 40 pounds of muscle and fat just to get as big as him. That mustache I grew, [his wife] Ruvé absolutely hated it. So would I like to play Dum Dum again? YES. Of all the characters I could take back, Dum Dum is right at the top of my list. Because he is very close to who I am in real life and I loved it. He was amazing.”

With the way the MCU was built thanks to the Multiverse, anything is possible. But even if it’s not about the multiverse, there are simply amazing stories to tell with this character! Stories from the past while Captain America was still on Ice, and stories long after. Marvel Comics found a way to bring Dum Dum Dugan back for more action, Marvel Studios could do that too. Other characters that made up the Howling Commandos include Gabe Jones, Happy Sam Swayer, and Pinky Pinkerton. At least these are the ones who survived.

I would love to see a movie about Dum Dum Dugan and The Howling Commandos! This is one of those things that would make me excited for Marvel movies again! They never will, though.
