Michael Fassbender Talks Playing Magneto in X-MEN ‘I Think I Had a Great Run’

Twice Oscar nominated actor Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave, Inglourious Basterds, Steve Jobs) is probably best known for his role in the X-Men film as the character Magneto. He concluded his four-film arc in the role in the 2019 film X-Men: Dark Phoenixand now he’s had a few years to reflect on his time playing the part.

Fassbender caught up with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via SuperHeroHype), and was asked if he was satisfied with the results of his time as Magneto/Erik Lehnsherr despite Dark Phoenix receiving mixed reviews.

He replied, “You know, I think I had a good run. I liked it very much. When Dark Phoenix ended – yeah, it was like… it was lucky, we had a great series.

When asked if he missed moving things with his mind, Fassbender joked: “No, eventually the pressure was getting to me, moving things all the time on demand, all these guys asking me to do it.”

It’s nice that he was able to finish his arc with Magneto before the franchise was rebooted with Marvel, and I’m happy that he looks back on that experience fondly. Fassbender can next be seen in David Sandberg’s film Kung Fury 2. He is also expected to star alongside his wife, Alicia Vikanderin a new film titled Hopedirected by The Lament‘S Na Hong-jin.
