Adam Driver talks filming Han Solo’s death scene in STAR WARS: THE FORCE Awakens

Adam Driver recently spoke about his experience filming the scene Star Wars: The Force Awakens where Kylo Ren kills Harrison FordIt’s Han Solo. This was a pretty shocking and emotional scene, and made Kylo Ren’s character completely unforgivable. In my opinion there is no redemption for him.

While he was a guest on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? of CNN, Driver expressed the emotions he felt while filming this scene in which Kylo kills his father Han with his lightsaber. When asked if it was “difficult” to film the scene, Driver said:

“I remember shooting that day and obviously it didn’t feel like that at all. John Williams wasn’t playing in the background, and it was very exciting, actually, to shoot with Harrison. Harrison was so generous and contemplative. For me it was a great moment on set, even though it was about his death.

I hated that Han Solo was killed by Kylo and then they tried to redeem the villain. However, Ford finally got his wish fulfilled when the character was killed off. He’s wanted Han Solo killed for years. Ford previously explained: “I thought his usefulness had been exhausted, bled dry and, well, I was willing to die for the cause. He brings a little gravitas, a little base.”

The driver went on to talk about his hesitation to join the Star Wars franchise for fear of fan backlash, which the sequel films suffered from. He said:

“I took it really seriously, I thought about it a lot and I was very indecisive. I knew it was a great opportunity and I didn’t want to be there and behave badly, a lot of people would watch it. I was a fan of those movies.

Driver is a great actor and gave a great performance Star Wars bad, I just didn’t care about the story arc and how the movies felt so disjointed.

Several cast members have already talked about Han Solo’s death scene and John Boyega he began by saying, “We’re just keeping moving to be honest with you, man. It’s true. The pressure is on, man. There’s no time. I think one unique thing for me about watching this movie was the commentary on the war. There hasn’t been a Star Wars movie yet that has explored war like The Last Jedi does. It’s very confusing; the classification of good and evil is all mixed together. As for Han, I’m sure we all know Let’s feel sentimental if someone would sit Finn down, sit Rey down. But Rey’s not training, she’s got stuff to do. I’ve got a back injury, I’ve got stuff to do. I can’t think about Han right now.”

Oscar Isaac then he expressed his opinion on the matter: “The thing has an echo, but he’s right. It’s a terrible situation, it’s critical for the Resistance, which is on its last legs. We’re trying to survive. The First Order is right at the top” . It’s like a war: you just have to keep moving to try to survive. So I think you feel the momentum of everything that happens in The Force Awakens pushing and reaching critical mass in this movie.”

Margaret Ridley had a very different take on Han’s death, however, saying, “I’m going to interject here. And I think it’s nice to have plots that play out in tandem and influence each other. Because I would say where it leads a lot impresses me. Rey is a character who was alone for a long time. And she’s really open to love and friendship, so Finn and BB-8 come in and it’s like this amazing adventure. And then Han, without trying, she’s looking for something from him because he’s there an intimacy, there is some kind of figure or something that she would never dream of for her. Everything is new for her, so she understands things differently, and lucky for me, because I was trying to get to grips with all that that’s going on, and Rey is trying to come to terms with everything that’s going on. So there’s some time for Rey. Everything is moving forward, but she has some time to ask questions and wonder what it means what led someone to do something like that and also how it directly affects the world around them. Her and she is worried about staying at home. So I would say she’s a little more affected.”
