Eli Roth has confirmed that he is directing the sequel to his recently released Christmas horror film Thanksgiving. I was actually really surprised by the reception of the first film, which currently has an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $30 million worldwide in its opening weekend.
Personally I didn’t like the film. Even though I like watching horror movies, Thanksgiving is not for me with its weak script and ridiculous dialogue. Maybe that was the point? To make a bad horror movie? I don’t know, maybe I missed something because so many other people seemed to enjoy it.
But hey! Good for Roth! He’ll get to make a sequel and people who like the first film will get to see John Carver’s killer go on a brutal new killing spree.
Roth will work on the screenplay with Jeff Rendalland the sequel is expected to hit theaters in 2025.
The first film is based on the Roth-directed mock trailer for the 2017 film Grindhouse. The story centers on a killer who “creates his own chopping block with the residents of a Massachusetts town that makes a big annual fuss on the annual day of the turkey”.
The cast includes Addison Rae (He’s All That) in the lead role, Patrick Dempsey, Jalen Thomas Brooks (Walker), Milo Mannheim (Zombies), Nell Verlaque (Big shot), Gina Gershon (Chucky), Tim Dillon AND Rick Hoffmann (Hostel).
What did you think about? Thanksgiving? Are you excited to hear that a sequel is on the way?
