It looks like Disney is gearing up to finally start filming the long-awaited Tron sequel Tron: Ares. Director Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Kon Tiki) is preparing to start production after the holidays!
Jared Leto is set to star in the film and he has joined him Cameron Monaghan (Star Wars Jedi), Evan Peters (WandaVision), Greta Lee, AND Jodie Turner-Smith (Without remorse).
As for the story, we know that it will focus on the emergence of a sentient program that somehow enters the human world. Leto will take on the role of Ares, which is the manifestation of the Tron program. Leto is said to play a video game programmer and tech CEO in what is described as the lead role.
Creator of Tron Steven Lisberger he is also involved in the film’s development as a consultant, and said: “The Tron team works hard. They’re always working. It’s going to happen. My goal with these things in playing the role of Obi-Wan is to say the one line that has an impact. I try to say something that is useful to them without falling into oblivion.”
I was much more enthusiastic Joseph Kosinski’S Tron: Ascension sequel, which ended up being scrapped during development. That movie was so close to being made, but Disney blocked it. It was a shame, but I hope the next film delivers something great Tron history. Only time will tell.
