EXCLUSIVEAfter a busy few months for British film and TV producers, there are signs that the industry is back on track following strikes by two actors and writers in the US.

amateurThe 20th century terror thriller starring Rami Malek will be one of the first studio shoots to resume filming in London next month, sources told Deadline.

amateurThe film, which also stars Rachel Brosnahan and Laurence Fishburne, was halfway through filming when the film’s hundreds of cast, crew and contractors took a break in July.

The cast of the film prioritized the project over other commitments they would have made had the strike not occurred. “Productions that require the cast to be recast means that other shows and films cannot schedule their release,” the source said.

amateur The film is directed by James Hawes, whose feature debut is the Anthony Hopkins vehicle One life, turned heads during the fall festival season. Bleecker Street has acquired US rights.

amateur follows a CIA cryptographer who, after his wife is tragically killed in a terrorist attack in London, demands that his superiors hunt her down. When it becomes clear that they won’t act due to conflicting internal priorities, he bribes the agency to train him and let him do the tracking himself.

Made in the USA Writer Gary Spinelli wrote the film. Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson are the producers, with Oscar winner Malek also producing.
