The wonders star Iman Vellani it was hands down my favorite part of the movie. She was amazing and brought such a fun, energetic energy to the film. She was so damn delicious on screen! I know the movie is getting a bad rap, and while it was far from perfect, I enjoyed it and talked to a lot of people who seemed to enjoy it too. Regardless, the film is not doing well at the box office and may become Marvel Studios’ least successful film.
Anyway, Vellani recently spoke about the film and shared his thoughts on the current state of Marvel fandom. If you haven’t seen the movie yet and want to avoid spoilers, you might want to skip this one because one of the things the actress talks about is the alternate ending of the movie.
At the end of the film, audiences watch Ms. Marvel recruit Kate Bishop into a team of Young Avengers. As she talks to her/Film, she reveals that there was another ending that featured Kamala paired with more characters. She doesn’t reveal who, but she said:
“There was another version where – does it matter if I say this? There were more characters. I won’t say which characters, but there were more characters. But this was long before we did any further photography. We knew we were going to take that scene. It was the last thing we shot in this movie during the reshoots. And so yeah, it changed a couple of times. And I think in the end, I think only Kamala and Kate Bishop are really perfect. They are so compatible.”
“Hailee [Steinfeld] and I got along so well. She’s really fun to talk to. And honestly, our back and forth, our banter was really funny, and I wish they would have kept some of it there because that scene kept going, Hailee and I kept bouncing off each other. So, I would be very excited if I ever get to work with her on a legitimate film after this. So yeah, it’s very exciting and I’m so honored to be able to be the one to bring the whole group together.”
If I had to guess what other characters would appear, I’d say it was probably Cassie Lang and America Chavez. As for the current state of Marvel fandom, he hopes fans are a little more positive about things:
“I think a lot of things. I don’t necessarily think within Marvel, I think Marvel is very good, they know where they’re wrong and they know how to fix it. It takes time to get there. I’d like to see improvement within the fandom. I think the people need to be a little more positive. These fandoms, their goal is so that people who are passionate about this nerdy stuff, can talk about it without being judged and can share their enthusiasm with the only other people in the world who will reciprocate.
“So, it would be just like Marvel, they’re growing and adapting to the times, they’re listening and responding to criticism and fan feedback. So I think people just have to be a little patient, and let them cook. I think in the in the meantime keep the fandom positive, share what you like.
“Don’t feed everyone catastrophic messages, because it’s a lot to handle. The world is already going through a lot, Hollywood is going through a lot, Marvel is going through a lot. So it’s just sad when fans throw wet blankets on whoever is simply trying to share your passion, enthusiasm and love for these films. Ultimately, these are the films that are made to allow people to escape real life, not the making of films. Who cares how Were these movies made? There are so many horror stories. Have you ever read what happened in “The Wizard of Oz”? Just like, folks, live your life and then when you’re ready for a little break, go to see The Marvels.”
You can’t help but love that positive attitude! Marvel movies have been decidedly more hit and miss lately, and superhero fatigue has taken over. Marvel is going through some growing pains right now, and I would love nothing more than to start making great films again. Steps are being taken to get back to quality over quantity, which is the right move.
