Tubi partners with Blacklist for the “To Be Commissioned” initiative for aspiring writers for Tubi’s Original Slate

Tubi announced a unique partnership with The Blacklist under the To Be Commissioned Initiative to give both emerging and established writers the opportunity to submit their screenplays to be developed, produced and distributed by Tubi. Tubi is currently drafting five scripts that appeal to a young, diverse audience and fit into one of the following genres: Science Fiction, Faith, Comedy, Romance and Wild Card (any genre), allowing a great script to be included that may not be lost within the other specified genres. Authors can submit their contributions to the following address: HERE starts today and the submission program runs until March 15, 2024.

“Tubi is committed to telling the world’s stories, and that starts with the art and craft of screenwriting,” said Adam Lewinson, chief content officer at Tubi. “We are honored to partner with Franklin Leonard and his team at Black List, who are pioneers in supporting writers, and we look forward to exploring together five unique stories that deserve to be told.”

“The best business plan has always been a great screenplay, and we’re excited to help Tubi find five films they can adapt into films that large and growing audiences can enjoy,” said Franklin Leonard, founder of Black List. “Tubi has been particularly smart about the types of films they focus on, supporting 200 creators to gain free access to the Black List site.”

Tubi offers viewers the world’s largest content library, which now includes more than 225,000 movies and TV episodes and around 300 FAST channels. Tubi is committed to a content strategy that showcases diverse voices and stories for a young and multicultural audience, and this partnership with Black List is one of the many ways Tubi is bringing new, underrepresented storytellers to the platform.

Die Swartlys will produce all five films and will work closely with Tubi throughout the programme. Writers from around the world over the age of 18 are welcome to submit their work, but all submitted scripts must be in English. Any blacklisted text that has received at least one review can be submitted. Authors are also welcome to upload new projects for consideration in this program.

Tubi will also provide 200 writers from traditionally underrepresented communities with an evaluation release and one month of hosting. For more details on how to apply for a Tubi fee waiver, visit the program submission page at blcklst.com. The distribution of all fee waivers is at the discretion of Tubi and the Black List.

Once submissions are complete, a committee of Tubi content managers meets to review all scripts and announce those that will move forward with development. Viewers can expect these original Tubi movies to arrive on Tubi as early as 2025.
