Review: HIDEit mounts are a sturdy and clean way to wall mount your stuff

Xbox Series S mounted on the wall with the HIDEit stand behind a TV.

Video game consoles are nothing new. They’ve been around since at least the ’80s, and there’s always been one question: where should I put that new console? For some, the issue is a question of function. For others, they must match an aesthetic. If you’re like me, you just want your child to stop pressing the eject and/or power buttons. This led me to look for a solution to leave my consoles accessible, but out of reach of small children. The best solution I found without having to buy new furniture was wall mounts.

The wall mounts that caught my attention were from the company HIDEit Mounts and they have mounts for almost everything. They have holders for sports memorabilia and equipment such as baseball bats and skateboards, PCs, various electronic devices, and of course, gaming consoles. What I really appreciated is that they have generic and specially designed wall mounts for the most popular electronic devices and consoles. If you have an Xbox Series I got in touch with HIDEit Mounts and they were kind enough to send me a mount for my Xbox Series . Although I was sent these articles, the thoughts that follow are my own.

I want to start the review with the good. The design of the stands I received are very sleek and barely add to most consoles, helping to add that floating look. They’re not a huge eyesore unless you think the console itself is an eyesore, but you can always mount the console behind the TV if there’s room. Openings at the top and bottom allow for good airflow without fear of overheating or fan overdrive. This last point is a problem I’ve had in the past trying to hide my Series X in a covered section of my entertainment center. Another plus is that the mounts are made of what appears to be solid metal and after a couple of weeks I haven’t noticed any looseness, bending, etc.

The price is another interesting feature. The Series They seem like fair prices for items specifically designed for my devices. Plus, the Series S stand comes in black or white, so you can match or contrast it with your console now that it features the black Series S 1TB.

Installing the mounts was also quite simple. Determine where you want to put it, check it is level, mark where the holes are, drill pilot holes, insert anchors if necessary, insert screws. I will say, I didn’t have the size drill bit they told me to use, so I had to look into it a bit, but it wasn’t that bad. They provide anchors and screws for you to use, although I wish they included six screws instead of four. There are six holes on the stand where screws can be inserted and I can’t figure out what two holes are for unless you want to use some extra screws you have lying around. Once assembled, it proved sturdy, although I wish we had those two extra screws to insert into the extra holes that are further from the center for extra support.

Before being assembled, the Series X was located more or less where the drill is located.

The only complaint I have, other than the fact that you only have four screws, is that it can be a little difficult to get the Series Unfortunately, when I removed the base, the console moved more freely than I would have liked. This means I went with the installed base. The Series S is much easier to pop into its stand since there’s no base to worry about.

A final note concerns the different ways of mounting them. Both of these stands say they can mount to a desk, but unless you have a fairly thick desk, you’ll need to supply your own screws. I wish shorter screws had been provided to make mounting on the desk easier. That said, I’m still not personally sure I would trust them to be mounted on the desk unless you have a very sturdy desk as that’s quite a bit of weight and the lips holding the console in place make me personally dubious whether it’s hanging upside down. That said, the Series S stand also says it can be used with VESA mounting, and if you’re interested, they also provide some screws.

All in all, HIDEit stands are a solid option for hanging your gaming consoles on the wall. This presents opportunities to better hide your consoles, place them out of reach of small children, or simply help create a different aesthetic. My issues with the mounts seem finicky and the price isn’t crazy. I would recommend these if you are looking to mount your consoles to the wall.
