Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley (Women talking) and Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The favorite) are reuniting after the drama of 2021, The lost daughter. This time they tackle the comedy genre with a true and scandalous story Wicked little letters. They are joined in the cast by Timothy Spall, Gemma Jones, Lolly AdefopeAND Anjana Vasan. The film is directed by Thea Sharrock (I before you, The one and only Ivan). The screenplay is written by Johnny Dolce.
The film’s synopsis reads:
“A 1920s English coastal town witnesses a dark and absurd scandal in this rebellious mystery comedy. Based on a true story stranger than fiction, the film follows two neighbors: deeply conservative Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and her fellow residents begin receiving vicious letters filled with unintentionally hilarious swear words, foul-mouthed Rose is accused of the crime. The anonymous and vulgar letters quickly spark a national uproar and a trial ensues. However, when the women of the town, led by police officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan), begin to investigate the crime, they come to suspect that something is wrong and Rose may not be the culprit after all.
This looks so delicious! I can’t wait to see this film and enjoy the evil spirit of Buckley and Colman. Check out the trailer below and watch Wicked little letters in UK cinemas on 23 February. Keep an eye out for the film’s release date in the United States.
