Francis Lawrence provides an update on the development of Constantine 2 with Keanu Reeves and things seem to be moving forward.
The sequel to the 2005 superhero horror film was shelved due to the writers’ strike, but now that the writers are back at work, Lawrence has met with Reeves to continue the saga.
“So Constantine 2 was of course put on hold by the writers’ strike,” Lawrence said playground. “And we had to overcome some hurdles to regain control of the character because other people had control of the Vertigo stuff. We are in control.”
Lawrence continued: “Me and Keanu, Akiva Goldsman have been in meetings to talk about what we think the story is going to be, and there will be more meetings – the script has yet to be written – but we really hope we do. ” Constantine 2and make it a real R version.”
Constantine loosely based on DC Comics/Vertigo Comics’ Hellblazer. Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello wrote the screenplay based on a story by Brodbin. Reeves evokes John Constantine, a chain-smoking cynic with the ability to see the true colors of half-angels and half-demons.
The film also stars Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, Peter Stormare, Max Baker, Francis Guinan, José Zúñiga, Jesse Ramirez, April Grace and Tanoia Reed.
