David Fincher AND Aaron Sorkin have spoken in the past about the possibility of making a sequel to the 2010 Oscar-winning film The social network. After everything the social media company has been through over the years since the release of the first film, I think a sequel would actually be even more interesting than the first film.
Well, the sequel is something Fincher is still talking about and, when asked in an interview with The Guardians, he said: “Aaron [Sorkin, The Social Network’s screenwriter] and I talked about it, but, um… it’s a can of worms. Fincher did not elaborate on this aspect.
Sorkin previously spoke about the possible sequel, saying, “I think what’s happened to Facebook these last few years is a story that’s really worth telling, and there’s a way to tell it as a sequel to The Social Network, and that’s as far as I know.
The producer of the original film, Scott Rudin, added: “I want to see it. And Scott wants to see it. People have told me about it. What we’ve discovered is the dark side of Facebook.”
Sorkin is said to have “taken an interest in Roger McNamee, an early Facebook investor who published the 2019 book Zuccato, who was critical of the company. Sorkin met with McNamee, who raised warning signs to Zuckerberg and Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg after noticing strange political activity on the platform.
Sorkin has said he would like to delve deeper and make a film covering the dark side of Facebook, but only if David Fincher returns to direct.
If they talk about the possibility of making a sequel, there’s a chance that will eventually happen. If so, would you be interested in watching it?
