Tennis champion Pete Sampras has announced that his wife Bridgette Wilson has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
“As most people know, I am a rather quiet and reserved person,” said a statement released by Sampras via the ATP. “However, the past year has been a particularly challenging time for my family and I have decided to share what happened. Last December my wife Bridgette was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She has since undergone major surgery and chemotherapy and continues targeted maintenance therapy.”
Sampras continued: “It’s hard to see someone you love go through a challenge like that.” However, the former tennis star says: “It’s been great to see our boys stand up and be such strong advocates for Bridgette, myself and… each other.”
Wilson has starred in films such as Billy Madison (1995), Deadly battle (1995), I know what you did last summer (1997) and The wedding planner (2001), to name just a few. The former Miss Teen USA married Sampras in 2000 and has two sons.
“It was inspiring to see that despite all these circumstances Bridgette was still a wonderful mother and wife. “I have also learned that it is very difficult to ask for support when it is simply too difficult to talk about,” the statement continued. “With that being said, I will end this by humbly asking for good thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues to thrive on her healing journey.”
